Senior Transportation Systems Safety Engineer

About the role

DB Engineering & Consulting is seeking a senior professional to lead safety engineering for complex rail and metro transit systems in Saudi Arabia. You will be responsible for ensuring that all system components meet the highest safety standards throughout design, construction, and operation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead hazard identification (HAZID), hazard analysis (HAZOP), risk assessments and ALARP demonstrations across all transit systems.
• Review and approve safety documentation such as RAMS reports, hazard logs, safety cases, SIL determinations, safety assurance plans and V&V records.
• Provide safety oversight for signalling/ATC, rolling stock, platform screen doors, traction power, telecoms, SCADA, tunnel ventilation and station systems.
• Assess safety impacts of design changes, construction methods, system interfaces and integration activities.
• Oversee testing and commissioning, validating emergency scenarios, degraded modes and fail‑safe behaviours.
• Participate in inspections, audits, NCR processes and safety compliance reviews.
• Coordinate safety interfaces with PMCM teams, contractors, O&M entities and employer representatives.
• Prepare safety reports, hazard logs, risk registers, audit findings and compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Systems or Safety Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 15 years of safety engineering experience, preferably in rail or metro projects.
• Extensive experience with RAMS, hazard analysis, safety assurance and safety case development for complex transit systems.
• Strong knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50129, EN 50716, NFPA 130, SIL methodologies and ALARP principles.
