Chief Accountant – Real Estate Portfolio

About the role

The Chief Accountant will lead the accounting function for a diversified real‑estate portfolio, covering property management, development projects and investment entities. Reporting directly to senior finance leadership, the role ensures accurate financial statements, robust internal controls and timely insights for strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle – general ledger, AP/AR, bank reconciliations and month‑end/annual close.
• Prepare financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards, real‑estate practices and regulatory requirements.
• Supervise and review the work of the accounting team, guaranteeing data quality and compliance.
• Oversee accounting for property portfolios, rental income, service charges, construction projects and investment entities.
• Review and approve journal entries, invoices, payment vouchers and financial adjustments.
• Monitor project budgets, development costs and variances; produce detailed financial analysis for management.
• Handle fixed‑asset accounting, depreciation schedules and capital expenditures.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, VAT/tax rules and relevant financial regulations.
• Coordinate external audit activities and ensure timely audit completion.
• Prepare cash‑flow forecasts and financial reports to support strategic planning.
• Review contracts, lease agreements and vendor payments for proper accounting treatment.
• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and control.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real‑estate or property‑management environments.
• Strong knowledge of real‑estate accounting, project costing and VAT regulations.
• Proven leadership and problem‑solving abilities.
