Commercial Director – Business Development & Tendering

About the role

We are looking for a strategic Commercial Director to drive business development, tendering and commercial excellence across large‑scale construction and landscape projects. The successful candidate will shape the commercial strategy, secure high‑value contracts and ensure profitable project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate and pursue new project opportunities to grow the business pipeline.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, government bodies and industry stakeholders.
• Conduct market analysis, forecast trends and define competitive advantages.
• Lead the preparation, review and submission of tenders, including pricing, value engineering and risk assessment.
• Coordinate with engineering, planning, procurement and finance teams to produce accurate, competitive proposals.
• Create commercial frameworks, policies and systems that support sustainable growth.
• Negotiate contracts, LOIs and final agreements, overseeing commercial terms.
• Monitor commercial risks and opportunities across business units and projects.
• Lead, mentor and develop teams in business development, tendering and commercial operations.
• Align commercial strategy with operational delivery and set clear KPIs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Extensive experience in commercial leadership within construction or infrastructure.
• Proven track record in business development, tendering and securing high‑value projects.
• Deep understanding of pricing strategies, estimation, contractual frameworks and market dynamics.
• Strong negotiation, communication and client‑management abilities.
• Strategic mindset with capability to lead cross‑functional teams.
• Familiarity with FIDIC or similar contract standards.
• Professional certifications such as MRICS, RICS or MBA are an advantage.
