Director - Systems and Rolling Stock

About the role

Mace is seeking a senior leader to drive the technical vision and delivery of a world‑class, fully automated (GoA4) driverless rail system for a major mixed‑use development in Saudi Arabia. The role operates client‑side, bridging master planning and core rail systems while ensuring technical integrity across the entire project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership and governance for the driverless rail system, covering concept, design, procurement and integration.
• Serve as the ultimate technical authority for all railway subsystems, including GoA4 signaling (CBTC), rolling stock, power supply/traction, telecommunications, SCADA and depot equipment.
• Lead the integration of rail infrastructure with master‑planned developer sectors, aligning civil, structural and architectural interfaces.
• Manage international engineering consultants, PMOs and specialised operators, holding partners accountable to quality, timelines and deliverables.
• Establish technical review gateways, safety assurance protocols (RAMS) and configuration control boards to ensure compliance with international standards and local regulations.
• Identify technical risks early, implement mitigation strategies and conduct value‑engineering exercises to optimise capital expenditure.
• Coordinate with real‑estate development teams to align rail alignment, station footprints and utility corridors with adjacent mixed‑use projects.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience leading integrated engineering teams on large‑scale rail or infrastructure programmes.
• Deep knowledge of driverless rail technologies, GoA4 automation and associated subsystems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage consultants and enforce governance frameworks in a developer‑led environment.
• Strong understanding of international safety and engineering standards, RAMS processes and configuration control.
