Fire Assay Technician

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is hiring a Fire Assay Technician in its Western Region laboratory. The technician performs routine analytical techniques to carry out fire assay procedures and reports to the Fire Assay Shift Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine analytical techniques and understand fire assay procedures
• Ensure the quality and quantity of samples throughout the analysis of fire assay samples
• Maintain lead fusion equipment daily and report all maintenance work needed for normal operations
• Submit a quality sample of silver beads to the Wet Chem Laboratory
• Follow all analytical methods according to instructions and maintain proper record keeping and document control
• Report accidents and incidents to the supervisor or management and stay diligent about safety
• Take part in shift activities as requested by supervisors and keep the work area clean
• Maintain good relationships with client personnel, government authorities and community assemblies

Required profile

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
• At least one year of experience in a similar position
• Able to work under minimal supervision
• English skills are mandatory

Required skills

• Understanding of lead fusion methods and sample type recognition
• Understanding of sample preparation and Wet Chem procedures
• Able to perform all lead fusion operations
