Outpatient Pharmacy Technician

About the role

The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician supports the outpatient pharmacy by preparing, repackaging, and dispensing medication orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role ensures safe medication handling, patient education, and compliance with pharmacy automation processes.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble and dispense medication orders under pharmacist supervision.
• Re‑package oral dosage forms for outpatient dispensing and label containers accurately.
• Identify and manage near‑expired medications, maintaining proper storage conditions and records.
• Calculate drug quantities required for prescriptions.
• Handle hazardous materials safely and apply first‑aid measures for accidental exposure.
• Maintain stock levels in the pharmacy and the Automated Storage and Retrieval Device.
• Report medication errors and adverse drug reactions to the pharmacy head.
• Participate in continuous education on medication management, high‑risk drugs, and safety practices.
• Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatments, and preventive measures.
• Provide first‑line troubleshooting for pharmacy automation and coordinate vendor support.

Required profile

• 0‑2 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
• Diploma in Pharmacy.
• Good command of oral and written English; Arabic is preferable.
• Valid pharmacy practice license from the regional health regulatory authority (e.g., SCFHS or DHA).
