Registered Nurse – Critical Care

About the role

The Registered Nurse – Critical Care provides high‑standard clinical nursing within a specialised ward, delivering comprehensive care to critically ill patients and supporting their families. The role involves assessing needs, planning and evaluating care, and acting as a positive role model for the nursing team.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients.
• Administer medications (oral, subcutaneous, IV) and record accurately, reporting any adverse reactions.
• Monitor vital signs, specialised equipment and adjust settings as required.
• Provide bedside care, including wound dressing, catheter insertion, cannulation and IV initiation.
• Educate patients and families on medical conditions, post‑treatment care and self‑management.
• Communicate compassionately with patients and families, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate and review patient care plans.
• Participate in discharge planning and ensure thorough handover of patient information.
• Uphold Ministry of Health guidelines and the organisation’s nursing values.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification with a valid licence to practice.
• Experience in critical care or intensive care settings preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work compassionately with patients and families.
• Commitment to professional standards, ethical responsibilities and continuous learning.

Required skills

• IV therapy and medication administration.
• Patient monitoring and interpretation of electronic displays.
• Catheter insertion, cannulation and wound dressing.
• Use of specialised critical‑care equipment.
