Charge Nurse – Clinical & Administrative Leader

About the role

The Charge Nurse leads the nursing team on a hospital unit, balancing direct patient care with operational management. This role ensures high‑quality care, staff performance, and smooth unit functioning throughout each shift.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee patient assessments, care plans, and treatment interventions to ensure effective and efficient care delivery.
• Supervise and support nursing staff and students, manage shift schedules, workloads, and provide guidance and preceptorship.
• Conduct purposeful rounding on the unit, interacting with patients and staff to meet needs, prevent complications, and improve care quality.
• Coordinate patient care with physicians, therapists, and social workers for comprehensive treatment.
• Ensure accurate, timely documentation and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Organize daily unit activities, including admissions, transfers, discharges, and maintenance requests.
• Lead emergency and crisis responses, coordinating with emergency services and resolving unexpected issues.
• Support staff development through training, performance evaluations, and continuous education.
• Manage medical supplies, equipment, and unit budget to control costs and maintain resources.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with current registration.
• Several years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Demonstrated leadership, decision‑making, and team‑building abilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
