About the role
The Hull Construction Manager leads all hull construction activities for new‑building vessel projects, overseeing fabrication, block assembly, and erection to ensure safe, on‑time, and on‑budget delivery. The role coordinates closely with engineering, planning, procurement, quality, and outfitting teams while maintaining compliance with classification and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Manage hull construction from steel fabrication through block assembly, erection, and structural completion.
- Ensure project schedules and production targets align with contractual milestones.
- Coordinate activities with Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Quality, Outfitting, and Project teams.
- Monitor progress, implement corrective actions, and optimise workforce, facilities, equipment, and materials.
- Lead steel fabrication workshops, panel lines, sub‑assembly, and block construction operations.
- Oversee welding, structural fabrication, dimensional control, NDT, and compliance with drawings and class requirements.
- Develop manpower loading plans, allocate supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and monitor productivity.
- Participate in project planning, construction strategy, and sequence planning; track KPIs, man‑hours, productivity, and earned‑value performance.
- Ensure compliance with classification societies, client specifications, company quality procedures, and international shipbuilding standards.
- Promote a strong HSE culture, conduct safety reviews, risk assessments, and ensure safe execution of heavy lifting, confined‑space, hot‑work, and work‑at‑height activities.
- Drive continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, and other productivity initiatives.
Required profile
- Proven experience managing hull construction or shipbuilding projects.
- Strong leadership and resource‑management capabilities.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, planning, procurement, quality, and project teams.
- Solid understanding of classification society requirements and international shipbuilding standards.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
