Patient Care Assistant

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides comprehensive, compassionate support to patients and healthcare professionals in a clinic or outpatient setting. The role ensures the environment is prepared, patient assessments are accurate, and care activities are documented according to standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare examination rooms with required instruments, devices, and supplies.
• Conduct patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, fall‑risk evaluation, and infection‑screening.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, prioritising patient comfort and safety.
• Schedule follow‑up appointments, specialist referrals, and diagnostic tests.
• Monitor and manage medical supplies, ensuring the OPD is stocked and items are paid for before procedures.
• Record vital signs, anthropometric measurements, and patient information in the system.
• Perform simple dressing changes, administer topical applications and eye drops, and conduct point‑of‑care testing.
• Track service charges, manage inventory usage, and report low or expired supplies.
• Identify and report equipment defects, maintenance issues, and safety hazards.
• Float to other units as needed and work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call duties.

Required profile

• Commitment to patient confidentiality and professional development.
• Ability to work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, and other team members.
• Flexibility to cover multiple units and adapt to urgent situations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in measuring and documenting vital signs.
• Knowledge of infection‑control protocols and basic wound care.
• Experience with point‑of‑care testing procedures.
