Anesthesia Registrar – Clinical Anesthesia Specialist

About the role

The Anesthesia Registrar provides comprehensive anesthesia services, ensuring high‑quality patient care throughout the peri‑operative period. Working closely with senior consultants, the registrar assesses, diagnoses, treats, and monitors patients requiring anesthesia while upholding safety standards and continuous quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate patients pre‑operatively and develop appropriate anesthesia plans.
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic investigations within approved clinical privileges.
• Administer anesthesia and related treatments in line with professional standards and guidelines.
• Monitor patients before, during, and after surgery to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.
• Participate in inpatient rounds, providing ongoing assessment and management.
• Assist consultants during complex procedures and support anesthesia clinics when assigned.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records, including progress notes and discharge summaries.
• Respond to emergencies and contribute to hospital emergency response activities.
• Coordinate care with nursing staff, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Obtain informed consent for anesthesia‑related procedures and uphold ethical standards.
• Support training of interns, residents, fellows, and other trainees.

Required profile

• Medical degree from an accredited institution recognized by relevant authorities.
• Completed internship and residency training in Anesthesiology.
• Postgraduate qualification in Anesthesiology or a related specialty.
• Minimum of 3 years post‑qualification experience as an Anesthesiology Specialist in a tertiary‑care setting.
• Board certification, fellowship, membership, or equivalent postgraduate credential in Anesthesiology.
