CAD Operator – Detailed Design & Manufacturing

About the role

The CAD Operator will create detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings for complex mechanical and electronic systems. The role ensures designs are manufacturable, meet configuration control standards, and support prototype and production activities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks, including tolerance analysis, motion kinematics, and mechanical joints.
• Create interface control drawings (ICDs), assembly drawings, BOMs, and detailed manufacturing documentation.
• Process 3D scan data and perform Scan‑to‑CAD using Geomagic Design X for reverse engineering and dimensional analysis.
• Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and ISO 2768, and produce welded structures and sheet‑metal drawings with ISO 2553 and ISO 13920 symbols.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, fabrication, and inspection teams to resolve technical issues and validate prototypes.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of detailed design experience, preferably in the defence or military sector.
• Relevant technical diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, CNC machining methods, and material/surface‑treatment procedures.
• Experience with configuration control, parts breakdown structures, and engineering change proposals.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5, ISO 2768).
• 3D scanning and Scan‑to‑CAD using Geomagic Design X.
• Understanding of CNC machining, milling, turning, drilling, and precision grinding.
• Familiarity with ERP systems for configuration control.
