CNC Machinist - Gas Turbine Components

About the role

The CNC Machinist supports machining and finishing operations on gas turbine components, including post-braze inspection, EDM, steam cleaning, grit blast preparation, vision inspection, coating polishing and laser hole clearing. The role also contributes to Lean implementation by supporting problem solving, maintaining 5S standards and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery and productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Operate machines such as EDM, MKG and other CNC and auto polishers according to approved work instructions, process specifications and quality requirements.
• Read and interpret work instructions, quality forms, technical documentation and engineering drawings.
• Record and maintain accurate process and inspection data.
• Set up, operate and monitor CNC, EDM, laser, polishing and inspection equipment safely.
• Inspect parts before and after machining, cleaning, polishing and inspection to ensure quality conformance.
• Follow Standard Work and Standard Work Combination Sheets, and perform grit blasting if required.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area to 5S standards and apply Lean principles.
• Identify and communicate improvement opportunities in safety, quality, cycle time, flow and waste reduction, and support improvements in standard work, visual management and process discipline.
• Work within takt time and standard process flow, use shop floor systems such as ELM and SmartShop where required, and comply with quality policies, safety requirements and procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma, technical college degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Knowledge of CNC machining, EDM, laser machining, finishing or related industrial manufacturing operations.
• Desired: at least 2 years' experience with steam cleaning, grit blasting and manual or automated coating polishing.
• Desired: at least 2 years' experience with gas turbine components or other precision aerospace/industrial parts.
