Coating Technician - Thermal Spray Operations

About the role

The Coating Technician supports thermal spray coating operations on gas turbine components, covering pre-coat and post-coat weighing and coat application. The role requires safe and accurate execution of process steps, strong Lean behaviours, active support of problem solving, and contribution to continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery and productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Perform coat application according to approved work instructions, process standards and engineering requirements.
• Perform masking for coating where required, following approved work instructions and process specifications.
• Read and interpret work instructions and quality forms to ensure accurate coating application.
• Record and maintain accurate process and measurement data.
• Use coating equipment, weighing devices, fixtures and hand tools safely and effectively.
• Inspect parts before and after coating to ensure conformance to quality requirements.
• Follow Standard Work and Standard Work Combination Sheets for consistency, quality, safety and efficient line flow.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area in line with 5S standards.
• Apply Lean principles in daily work and take part in problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective action.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, quality, cycle time, flow and waste reduction.
• Work within takt time, cycle time and standard process flow expectations, and use shop floor systems such as ELM and SmartShop where required.
• Comply with company quality policies, safety requirements and applicable procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma, technical college degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Knowledge or experience in a technician, manufacturing, coating or industrial role.
• Desired: minimum 2 years' experience with thermal barrier coating processes.
• Desired: minimum 2 years' experience with gas turbine components or other precision aerospace/industrial parts.
• Desired: participation in problem solving or process improvement activities.
