Computing Instructor – IT, CS & Software Engineering

About the role

The Introductory Course Instructor for the Foundation Year Program will deliver high‑quality teaching in Information Technology, Software Engineering and Computer Science to first‑year university students. The role introduces core computing concepts, differentiates the three pathways and supports students in making informed major choices.

Key responsibilities

• Teach introductory computing courses such as Foundations of Computing, Introduction to ICT Disciplines, Computing Thinking & Problem Solving, and Computing Careers & Pathways.
• Deliver engaging instruction covering algorithms, data representation, networks and cybersecurity basics.
• Explain the distinctions between Information Technology, Software Engineering and Computer Science.
• Use case studies, industry examples, hands‑on labs and real‑world projects to contextualize learning.
• Guide students on career pathways, industry roles and emerging technologies in each discipline.
• Participate in curriculum development and continuous program improvement.
• Create a supportive, inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and computational thinking.
• Provide office hours, academic advising and major‑selection guidance.
• Assess student understanding through formative and summative methods and give constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with IT, Software Engineering and Computer Science faculty to ensure alignment with degree programs.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of fundamentals in IT, Software Engineering and Computer Science.
• Experience teaching introductory computing courses to university students.
• Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
• Excellent communication and student‑advising skills.
• Commitment to stay current with developments in computing fields and industry trends.
