Data Center Planner

About the role

The Data Center Planner oversees the activities of 24x7 shift teams in data centers and ensures enough personnel is available for each operations shift. The role covers capacity planning, racking and change compliance, and shift scheduling. The workplace is on site in Thuwwal, Saudi Arabia.

Key responsibilities

• Capacity planning for data center hosting and prepare racking diagrams assigned to the relevant shifts
• Oversee racking and related activities of the DC Operations team and manage the shift schedule
• Liaise with the OSP/ISP team on interbuilding connectivity and plan and recommend operational requirements
• Manage the data center asset register and interface with vendors such as HP, Dell, SUN and Supermicro on hardware and systems implementation
• Help system owners troubleshoot Windows/Linux server hardware failures and coordinate replacement hardware with the vendor
• Monitor and record facility security, HVAC, fire detection and suppression, temperature, humidity and critical power systems; ensure visitors are signed in and escorted
• Ensure compliance with TIA 942 standards for copper and fiber cabling and perform other operational duties per the approved SOP
• Work flexible shifts including nights and weekends and take part in an on-call rotation when required

Required profile

• BS or diploma in computer science, IT, electrical/electronics or mechanical engineering
• At least 5 years of IT experience, including at least 3 years in data centers
• APC infrastructure experience required
• Good experience coordinating daily activities and preventive maintenance with the facility team and IT staff
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and on-call duty

• Basic knowledge of UPS systems, medium/low voltage circuits and chilled water-cooled HVAC
