Director of Clinical Governance

About the role

The Director – Clinical Governance leads Bupa’s Clinical Governance function, driving clinical excellence, patient safety and regulatory compliance across the organization. Reporting to senior leadership, the role shapes strategy, oversees risk management and ensures accreditation standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Define the vision, goals and strategic plan for Clinical Governance, Medical Quality and Patient Safety.
• Develop and maintain governance policies, procedures and standards aligned with national and international accreditation requirements (e.g., CBAHI, JCI).
• Lead the creation and upkeep of the Clinical Risk Register, ensuring mitigation actions and escalation of patient safety risks.
• Oversee clinical risk assessments, incident investigations and the implementation of corrective action plans.
• Drive the development, review, dissemination and compliance monitoring of evidence‑based clinical guidelines.
• Plan and manage accreditation processes for service lines, coordinating with regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
• Conduct audits of compliance with Ministry of Health and other regulatory standards.
• Analyse qualitative and quantitative data from governance and audit projects and report progress to senior leadership.
• Design and deliver workshops and training sessions on compliance and patient safety requirements.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in clinical governance, medical quality or patient safety within a healthcare organization.
• Deep understanding of accreditation frameworks such as CBAHI, JCI and local health authority regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans, policies and risk management processes.
• Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting clinical data and audit results.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities to influence cross‑functional teams.
