Export Compliance & Research Security Officer

About the role

The Export Compliance & Research Security Officer (ECRSO) will lead KAUST’s export compliance program, focusing on U.S. export controls for high‑performance computing, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and advanced semiconductors. Working within the Office of General Counsel, the officer will advise researchers, manage licensing, and ensure compliant access to the Shaheen III supercomputer.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain KAUST’s export compliance program, aligning with U.S. Export Administration Regulations and license conditions.
• Develop and execute compliance processes for Shaheen III supercomputer access, use and operations.
• Conduct export classification, restricted‑party screening and due‑diligence reviews for research projects, shipments and collaborations.
• Partner with Digital Services, Information Security and IT to embed export controls into technology workflows.
• Prepare and support export license applications, technology control plans and end‑user certifications.
• Provide training, outreach and policy guidance to faculty, staff and students on export compliance and research security.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of export control laws, regulations and standards with ability to apply them in a university setting.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, capable of explaining complex compliance requirements to diverse stakeholders.
• Detail‑oriented with proven ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate audit records.
• Experience mentoring and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
