Fiber Optic Testing Engineer

About the role

The Fiber Optic Testing Engineer will work in a dedicated laboratory to perform testing and evaluation of fiber optic components in line with international standards. The role supports accreditation, quality management, and the development of new testing capabilities while delivering accurate reports to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Test and evaluate fiber optic cables, connectors, patch cords, closures, and passive optical components.
• Conduct optical, mechanical, environmental, and durability tests according to IEC, ISO, Telcordia (GR), and ITU‑T standards.
• Operate, maintain, and verify laboratory equipment such as OTDR, optical power meters, light sources, spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers, and tensile/compression machines.
• Analyze test data, prepare technical reports, and ensure timely delivery.
• Develop, validate, and implement new test methods and procedures.
• Support ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation activities, including method validation, uncertainty calculations, proficiency testing, and internal audits.
• Perform equipment calibration checks and coordinate external calibrations.
• Investigate non‑conforming work and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain laboratory records, test documentation, and quality system documentation.
• Provide technical support to customers and internal teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in fiber optic testing, telecommunications laboratories, or TIC services.
• Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is preferred.
• Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.

Required skills

• Operation of OTDR, optical power meter, optical light source, optical spectrum analyzer.
• Use of environmental chambers, tensile and compression testing machines, climatic and aging test equipment.
• Knowledge of IEC, ISO, Telcordia (GR), ITU‑T standards.
• Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 quality management and calibration principles.
• Technical report preparation and Microsoft Office proficiency.
