Fire Assay Technician

About the role

The Fire Assay Technician will perform precise chemical analysis of gold dore and bullion samples to support LBMA Good Delivery standards. Working in a controlled industrial laboratory, the role ensures accurate determination of precious metal content and maintains assay data integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare production samples by crushing, splitting, and pulverizing for representative fire assay.
• Execute fire assay procedures including fusion, cupellation, and parting to isolate gold and silver.
• Operate Atomic Absorption Spectrometers or similar instruments to quantify gold purity.
• Run certified reference materials and duplicates for quality control validation.
• Perform routine calibration of balances and furnaces and report mechanical issues.
• Handle hazardous chemicals in strict compliance with HSE guidelines.
• Enter assay results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and maintain audit‑ready records.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Geology or related field.
• Minimum three years of fire assay experience in mining, refining or a commercial laboratory.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 laboratory requirements and LBMA compliance.
• Ability to work safely with high‑temperature furnaces and toxic reagents.
• Fluent in English for technical reporting.
• Meets Saudi national Saudization criteria.

Required skills

• Fire assay techniques (cupellation, inquartation, gravimetric analysis).
• Operation of Atomic Absorption Spectrometer.
• Use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Calibration of analytical balances and high‑temperature furnaces.
• Understanding of ISO 17025 quality management standards.
