Intensive Care Consultant

About the role

The Intensive Care Consultant provides high‑quality inpatient and outpatient care, including management of patients in the ICU, in line with evidence‑based medicine and Saudi Ministry of Health regulations. The role combines direct patient treatment, leadership of the ICU team, and participation in quality‑improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary ICU rounds, develop treatment plans, and ensure timely patient documentation.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as airway management, mechanical ventilation, and invasive monitoring.
• Supervise junior medical staff, residents, nurses, and respiratory therapists.
• Participate in on‑call rotation, emergency response, and code‑blue activities.
• Contribute to departmental quality‑improvement, infection‑control, and equipment procurement committees.

Required profile

• Medical degree from an accredited school with Saudi Board, Arab Board, US/Canadian Board, FRCS or equivalent certification in intensive care.
• Minimum of five years of experience in intensive care or critical care medicine.
• Demonstrated leadership, teaching, and continuous medical education involvement.

Required skills

• Endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation management.
• Arterial line, central venous catheter, and pulmonary artery catheter placement.
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced cardiac life support.
• Transvenous temporary pacing and tube thoracostomy.
