Manufacturing Shop Welder

About the role

The ASME Pressure Vessel Welder / Pipeline In‑service Welder is responsible for fabricating and welding pressure‑vessel components to ASME/API standards. The role involves reading blueprints, preparing joints, and delivering high‑quality welds in both shop and field environments.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and ASME/API 1104 welding procedure specifications.
• Perform welding tasks on pressure‑vessel and pipeline components using SMAW, GTAW, GMAW or SAW.
• Assemble and fit‑up components with fixtures, jigs and clamps, ensuring proper joint preparation and cleanliness.
• Inspect workpieces for defects, maintain weld logs, heat numbers and material traceability.
• Collaborate with QC personnel and third‑party inspectors to ensure compliance with codes and internal quality standards.
• Follow all safety protocols, use required PPE and participate in site safety briefings.

Required profile

• High school or technical school certification with formal welding training preferred.
• Minimum 5 years experience welding ASME pressure vessels.
• Valid ASME Section IX / API 1104 welder qualifications.
• Ability to work independently, lift heavy objects and operate in confined or elevated spaces.

Required skills

• SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW welding processes.
• Oxy‑fuel cutting.
• Blueprint and welding symbol reading.
• Knowledge of ASME codes (Section VIII Div 1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8) and API 1104.
• Familiarity with material identification, heat‑number tracking and NDE methods (RT, UT, PT).
