Merchandise Manager — Construction Materials

About the role

The Merchandise Manager for Construction Materials will lead the development and execution of category strategies for the Saudi construction market. This role bridges sales, procurement and logistics to ensure the right products are available to meet client needs.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular on‑site visits to customer construction projects to capture and clarify material procurement requirements.
• Take ownership of business opportunities from sales teams, perform product selection, design category layouts and develop medium‑ to long‑term category plans for the Saudi market.
• Research local market demand, competitor assortments and pricing to optimise the cross‑border and local product portfolio, driving sales volume and gross profit.
• Collaborate with procurement and supplier teams to optimise supply structures, manage product lifecycles, adjust SKU mixes and phase out low‑performing items.
• Monitor category performance data—including sales, inventory and gross margin—produce regular analysis reports and propose optimisation actions.
• Work closely with local sales, warehouse and logistics teams to align supply with demand, ensuring stable delivery and after‑sales support.
• Support regional leadership in rolling out localized category strategies and expanding high‑quality construction material resources for Saudi and Chinese clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Materials, Supply Chain Management or related fields.
• 5–10 years of experience in the construction or building materials industry, with strong knowledge of structural, finishing, MEP materials and consumables.
• Proven experience in material engineering, procurement or sales within construction companies, real‑estate developers or engineering firms.
• Fluent business English; Mandarin Chinese is strongly preferred; Arabic is a plus.
• Ability to independently manage demand sorting, product selection and category planning, with strong data‑analysis and cross‑functional coordination capabilities.
• Willingness to travel frequently across Saudi Arabia for customer site visits.
