Ophthalmology Technician

About the role

The Ophthalmology Technician supports ophthalmologists and eye‑care teams in delivering high‑quality diagnostic and therapeutic services. This role combines technical expertise with a patient‑centred approach to ensure smooth clinic operations and optimal patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform ophthalmic diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, visual field testing, refraction, OCT, fluorescein angiography, and ultrasound imaging.
• Prepare patients for examinations, obtain medical histories, and explain procedures to ensure comfort and compliance.
• Assist with contact lens fittings, measurements, and patient education.
• Triaging patients based on urgency, administering prescribed eye medications, and scheduling follow‑up appointments.
• Support ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures by setting up equipment, positioning patients, and handling instruments.
• Document test results, patient information, and treatment plans accurately in the EMR system.
• Provide patients with education on eye conditions, treatment options, medication use, and post‑care instructions.
