Port Captain - KSA

About the role

The Port Captain will act as the primary liaison between vessels and DP World’s on‑shore teams in Saudi Arabia. This role ensures budget compliance, crew welfare, and safe, efficient vessel operations on a daily basis.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor vessel budgets related to food provisions and housekeeping purchases.
• Liaise with Captains and crew to maintain clear communication and promote safety.
• Conduct technical interviews of deck officer candidates and brief Masters, Officers and crew on their roles and company expectations.
• Coordinate travel, crew changes and personnel matters with the Personnel Department.
• Review and expedite deck and catering requisitions, ensuring economical inventory levels.
• Track purchase orders with the Purchasing team and flag any items that could disrupt operations.
• Ensure sufficient spare parts are carried on board.
• Perform regular performance appraisals of bridge teams and highlight high‑potential or under‑performing crew to the Fleet Superintendent.
• Oversee crew hand‑over, familiarisation, wellness and welfare initiatives.
• Conduct monthly on‑board inspections of hull, cargo spaces, deck machinery and safety equipment.
• Coordinate special offshore requirements with Operations and Vessel Master.
• Prepare vessel repair specifications with engineering staff.
• Enforce IMCA guidelines and best practices for DP and navigational equipment.

Required profile

• Experience in maritime operations and crew management.
• Familiarity with DP (Dynamic Positioning) systems and IMCA standards.
• Ability to conduct technical interviews and performance appraisals.
• Strong organisational skills for requisition tracking and inventory control.
