Principal Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centres & Mission Critical

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a highly experienced Mission Critical Principal Engineer – Electrical to join our team. In this role you will lead end‑to‑end electrical system design for data centres, ensuring solutions meet rigorous reliability, efficiency, and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Translate client requirements into robust electrical designs covering medium and low voltage distribution, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, busducts, grounding schemes, power monitoring, fire detection and alarm systems.
• Produce technical documentation such as calculations, system studies, single‑line diagrams, layout drawings, specifications, block schematics and compliance tables.
• Lead conceptual and detailed design reviews using BIM/Revit models and coordinate with architectural, mechanical and building‑technology disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers, share best practices and drive continuous improvement across the design team.
• Develop scalable, repeatable data‑centre solutions for the UAE and KSA and ensure compliance with Uptime Institute, TIA‑942, NFPA, ASHRAE and local codes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience designing large‑scale data‑centre projects (Tier III/IV).
• Proven ability to coordinate in complex, matrixed environments and deliver projects that meet international standards.
• Professional certifications such as Uptime Tier Certified Professional, PMP, LEED AP or BICSI RCDD are highly desirable.
