Project Lead Engineer - 800xA

About the role

ABB is hiring a Project Lead Engineer for its 800xA business line in the Middle East, reporting to the Operations Manager. The role covers designing and executing DCS engineering activities in medium to high complexity service projects, delivering quality customer service and working with Sales, Product Management and Business Development teams. The work model is hybrid/on-site.

Key responsibilities

• Lead medium to high complexity projects covering all disciplines, applying standard techniques and procedures to engineering assignments.
• Help prepare proposals and presentations for service engineering projects, and identify and document customer requirements, as-is processes and process interfaces.
• Create work plans and cost estimates, ensure quality deliverables on time and within target cost, and mentor and guide the team.
• Provide technical support for testing, installation and commissioning, and collaborate with business and IT teams to meet timelines.
• Assist with customer and technical issues, interact with official contracts, and suggest improvements to products, quality and customer service.
• Stay up to date with process automation trends and technologies, and take part in installation, commissioning and site activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics or Communications.
• 8-10 years of experience in process automation, especially in large oil and gas, refinery or petrochemical complexes.
• Experience with high-complexity DCS architectures involving multiple systems and third-party interfaces, and with DCS retrofits, upgrades, service and commissioning.
• Good communication and leadership abilities, teamwork, self-motivation and adaptability.
• Willingness to relocate overseas and to travel to offshore and onshore sites.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ABB 800xA (system, history, information management); legacy systems such as Advant, Safeguard, Infi90 and SCADA Advantage are an advantage.
• Virtualization (ESXi, RAID, VMware), Windows administration, network hardening and cybersecurity design.
• MODBUS and OPC communication; alarm management solutions.
• Field device configuration (HART, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus) and asset optimization are an added advantage.
