Senior Engineer - Operational Studies

About the role

A Senior Engineer in Operational Studies is sought to conduct detailed studies and analyses supporting the planning, stability and optimisation of the combined GCC power system. The role contributes to grid reliability, assesses the impact of critical outages and optimises power exchange across the interconnector.

Key responsibilities

• Update and validate the Network Model for Operational Studies, including RES models
• Perform load flow, short circuit, transient and dynamic stability assessment studies
• Analyse system performance, including HVDC operation during disturbances and critical events
• Carry out operational planning studies for short- and medium-term stability and security
• Evaluate the impact of critical outages and determine required availability and reserves
• Analyse power exchanges and assess dynamic and protection responses
• Run post-incident analysis with simulations and recommend preventive actions
• Calculate net transfer capacities (NTC) through system studies
• Review new project Scope of Work, Technical Specifications and study results, and assist with Summer and Winter reports, contingency plans and operational guidelines
• Analyse historical data and real-time inputs to assess RES intermittency impacts and develop mitigation strategies

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems or a related field; a master's degree is a plus
• Professional certifications such as PE or CEng are advantageous
• Experience in modelling, network optimisation and post-incident analysis
• Ability to write comprehensive technical reports and work collaboratively across teams and organisations

Required skills

• Power system studies and grid operations
• Operational planning studies, load flow analysis, stability assessments and outage impact analysis
• Knowledge of HVDC systems, dynamic stability, protection systems and power exchange
• PSS/E proficiency, including advanced dynamic studies
• Familiarity with regulatory standards and industry practices
