Technical Support Engineer (Protection Engineering)

About the role

The Technical Support Engineer will ensure the reliable operation of protection systems for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) containers, power conversion systems and high‑voltage substations. You will act as the primary technical liaison for clients, troubleshooting protection schemes and minimizing downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain protection devices, including IEDs, for BESS, PCS and HV substations.
• Review, implement and justify protection settings, logic diagrams and coordination studies (over‑current, distance, differential, etc.).
• Lead or supervise secondary injection, CT/VT and functional trip testing during commissioning.
• Perform root‑cause fault analysis, produce technical reports and present findings in client meetings.
• Install, commission, repair and maintain energy‑storage systems on‑site.
• Provide timely on‑site technical support to ensure continuous operation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 1 year of hands‑on experience in protection and control engineering.
• Strong troubleshooting and technical support abilities.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Protection relays (Siemens, ABB, GE, SEL).
• Substation communication protocols: IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3.
• Experience with protection requirements for battery systems.
• Proficiency in ETAP or similar power‑system analysis software.
• Secondary injection testing, CT/VT testing, functional trip testing.
