Telemedicine Gastroenterology Registrar

About the role

The Telemedicine Gastroenterology Registrar is a physician in advanced training who delivers specialist GI and hepatology care through virtual platforms. Working under consultant supervision, the registrar ensures safe, patient‑centred management while complying with telemedicine regulations and clinical governance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct virtual consultations using video, phone and secure messaging to assess, diagnose and manage common GI conditions such as GERD, IBS, IBD follow‑up, fatty liver disease and functional disorders.
• Review laboratory results and imaging remotely, adjust treatment plans, and flag red‑alert cases for urgent in‑person assessment.
• Document all encounters accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) and participate in telehealth‑driven care pathways.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of gastroenterology, hepatology and digital health; attend CME activities and support teaching of junior doctors.
• Adhere to clinical guidelines, safe prescribing practices and telemedicine regulations; report safety concerns and engage in quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Utilise telemedicine platforms efficiently, ensure confidentiality of digital records and collaborate with IT for system optimisation.

Required profile

• Medical doctor enrolled in a gastroenterology registrar training programme.
• Registered with the relevant health authority and authorized to practice under consultant supervision.
• Familiarity with Saudi Central Board for Health Specialties (SCFHS) or equivalent regulatory framework.
• Strong commitment to patient safety, continuous learning and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Required skills

• Proficiency with telemedicine platforms (video, secure messaging, lab result review).
• Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
