Testing & Commissioning Manager – Wind Turbine Specialist

About the role

The Testing & Commissioning Manager will lead the planning, execution and technical assurance of commissioning activities for utility‑scale wind turbine generators (WTGs). The role ensures mechanical, electrical, control, protection and grid‑interface systems are commissioned safely, meet OEM and statutory requirements, and are ready for hand‑over.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering and pre‑commissioning planning, provide inputs to design teams and review FAT of WTG control and protection systems.
• Supervise mechanical erection, torquing, alignment, lubrication and verify LV/MV electrical installations, grounding and transformer energisation.
• Conduct pre‑energisation checks, insulation resistance tests, phase‑sequence verification and coordinate first grid synchronization and power ramp‑up.
• Validate WTG controller parameters against grid codes, perform LVRT/HVRT, frequency ride‑through and reactive capability tests.
• Support trial runs, performance acceptance, close commissioning punch points and provide knowledge transfer to O&M teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 12–15 years of WTG commissioning experience, preferably with OEM authorisation.
• Certified Engineer status and strong safety awareness for rotating equipment and work at height.

Required skills

• Grid compliance and grid‑synchronisation testing.
• Control and protection system expertise (FAT review, protection relay testing).
• Transformer energisation and LV/MV electrical commissioning.
• Risk assessments, functional testing and insulation resistance testing.
• Pitch and yaw drive control, mechanical brake and emergency stop testing.
• SCADA communication and performance data analysis.
• Knowledge of IEC 61400 series standards.
