Assistant Computing Lecturer – Introductory ICT Courses

About the role

The Assistant Computing Lecturer will deliver introductory courses that orient students to the core concepts of Information Technology, Software Engineering, and Computer Science. This role helps students understand the distinctions between these pathways, explore real‑world applications, and make informed decisions about their major selection.

Key responsibilities

• Teach foundational computing courses such as Foundations of Computing, Introduction to ICT Disciplines, Computing Thinking & Problem Solving, and Computing Careers & Pathways.
• Deliver engaging instruction covering algorithms, data representation, networks, and basic cybersecurity.
• Explain the differences between IT (systems management), Software Engineering (software design and development), and Computer Science (theoretical foundations).
• Use case studies, industry examples, hands‑on labs, and projects to contextualize learning.
• Guide students on career pathways, industry roles, and emerging technologies.
• Participate in curriculum development and continuous program improvement.
• Provide academic advising, major‑selection guidance, and pastoral support.
• Assess student performance through formative and summative methods and give constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with faculty across IT, Software Engineering, and Computer Science programs.
• Maintain records of student progress and attend departmental meetings.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to teach introductory computing concepts to diverse student groups.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.
