Vice Provost of Academic Excellence

About the role

The Vice Provost of Academic Excellence will lead the design and oversight of academic quality standards, assessment governance, learning technology evaluation, interdisciplinary education, program management and accreditation readiness at RUARUA. Reporting to senior leadership, the role works closely with deans, faculty and support functions to ensure policies, processes and systems align with the university’s strategy and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Academic Excellence department’s strategic plan, objectives and operational plans.
• Oversee budget planning, utilization and reporting for the academic division.
• Design, implement and continuously improve policies, processes and procedures that exceed best‑in‑class standards.
• Lead and mentor a performance‑driven team, handling recruitment, training, development and performance management.
• Establish and review teaching standards, frameworks and teacher‑training workshops to meet accreditation requirements.
• Maintain assessment policies, grading rubrics, exam security protocols and faculty training on reliable assessment design.
• Evaluate learning and assessment technologies, manage procurement, system integration and deployment in partnership with Digital & Technology.
• Govern interdisciplinary education standards, define learning outcomes and coordinate implementation across colleges.
• Oversee accreditation planning, evidence collection, repository management and corrective‑action tracking.
• Facilitate cross‑functional coordination with deans, faculty leaders and support units, briefing senior leadership on risks and progress.

Required profile

• 10+ years of progressive experience in higher education, academic quality, curriculum oversight or accreditation, including at least 6 years in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of teaching standards, assessment governance, quality assurance and accreditation processes within an arts university.
• Demonstrated experience partnering with academic leaders and managing large‑scale academic initiatives.
• PhD or terminal degree in a relevant discipline is required.
• Professional certification in quality assurance, accreditation or project management is an advantage.
