Chemist – Water Quality & Chemical Management

About the role

The Chemist will lead water quality management and chemical operations within an industrial plant, ensuring compliance with standards and optimizing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee water treatment programs for cooling water, boiler feed water and wastewater, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Conduct regular water quality tests (pH, conductivity, alkalinity, etc.) and adjust treatment processes as needed.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses on fuels, lubricants and process fluids.
• Develop and validate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory analyses.
• Manage procurement, storage, handling and inventory of all plant chemicals.
• Track chemical usage, maintain accurate inventory records and ensure safety compliance.
• Adhere to health, safety, security and environmental (HSE) procedures and prepare audit reports.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance and engineering teams to provide chemical insights and support troubleshooting and root‑cause analyses.
• Provide training on chemical safety, handling procedures and environmental practices.
• Conduct research and develop improved chemical treatment methods.
• Maintain documentation of analyses, compliance checks and performance reports.
• Support design review, installation, commissioning and trial operation phases, including O&M manual finalisation and site‑specific procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience in water treatment and chemical analysis within an industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and environmental standards.
• Ability to develop SOPs, technical documentation and manage chemical inventories.
• Collaborative mindset to work closely with operations, maintenance and engineering teams.
• Experience in troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and implementing process improvements.
