Faculty Position in Petroleum Geology

About the role

The Physical Science and Engineering Division at KAUST seeks a faculty member at any rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) to lead research in Petroleum Geology, focusing on Arabian petroleum systems, reservoir modeling, and hydrocarbon‑related exploration geophysics.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an internationally recognized research program in petroleum‑systems analysis and basin modeling.
• Conduct reservoir characterization, lithofacies and pore‑network analysis, and integrate outcrop analogues with seismic, well and production data.
• Advance seismic interpretation, inversion, and geological uncertainty quantification techniques.
• Collaborate across disciplines and contribute to national and regional climate and energy initiatives.
• Publish high‑impact research, secure funding, and mentor graduate students.

Required profile

• PhD in Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field.
• Significant research experience in petroleum systems, basin analysis, or reservoir modeling.
• Advanced knowledge of Arabian geology; industry experience is desirable.
• Track record of establishing research programs and obtaining external funding.
