Hourly Paid English Teacher

About the role

We are seeking an hourly‑paid English teacher to deliver high‑quality language instruction to diverse learners. The role supports the British Council’s mission of fostering cultural understanding and providing rewarding learning experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver English lessons that meet the needs of various learner groups.
• Ensure teaching aligns with British Council Global Teaching Standards and learner expectations.
• Monitor student progress, provide regular feedback and promote learner autonomy.
• Engage in professional development and performance management to maintain best ELT practices.
• Support teaching centre activities, attend staff meetings and contribute to course development and evaluation.
• Assist local marketing efforts and deliver excellent customer service.
• Complete teaching‑related administrative tasks and uphold British Council values.
• Maintain compliance with safeguarding, data protection, equality, diversity, inclusion and health‑and‑safety policies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated subject knowledge in English language teaching.
• Ability to engage and motivate learners.
• Capability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Skill in planning and delivering coherent lessons.
• Experience using assessment and feedback to support learning.
• Effective management of teaching and learning resources.
• Upholding professional responsibilities and ethical standards.
