Materials Inspector

About the role

The Materials Inspector ensures that all construction materials delivered to and used on project sites meet the required specifications, quality standards, and regulatory codes. This role involves on‑site inspection, coordination with engineers and laboratories, and verification of compliance throughout the construction process.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect incoming materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, and soil to confirm conformity with approved specifications.
• Witness and review laboratory tests including compressive strength, density, gradation, and moisture content.
• Verify that all materials satisfy project standards, codes, and technical requirements.
• Monitor adherence to Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), material sampling procedures, and quality plans.
• Prepare inspection reports, test summaries, non‑conformance reports (NCRs) and follow up on corrective actions.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and laboratories to resolve material‑related issues.
• Confirm proper storage, handling, and usage of materials on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering (accredited) with at least 7 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of direct field experience.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, testing standards, and quality‑control procedures.
• Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, or equivalent testing standards.
• Excellent reporting, communication, and inspection abilities.
• Ability to identify non‑conforming materials and enforce corrective actions.
