Principal Specialist, Mine Waste to Value

About the role

Ma'aden, one of the fastest-growing mining companies in the world and the largest multi-commodity mining and metals company in the Middle East, is hiring a Principal Specialist for its Mine Waste to Value function in Riyadh. The role turns mining waste streams such as waste rock and tailings into commercially viable products, unlocking new revenue, improving resource recovery, reducing environmental liabilities and advancing circular economy goals. It bridges technology development, commercialization and operational deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and maintain a long-term waste-to-value portfolio aligned with growth, sustainability and circular economy objectives, and identify and prioritize opportunities to recover value from waste rock, tailings and other by-products.
• Expand value creation through recovery of critical minerals, industrial minerals, aggregates and other products, and develop commercially viable products from mining waste.
• Evaluate emerging technologies on technical readiness, scalability, economics, environmental impact and strategic fit, and lead feasibility studies, due diligence and innovation assessments.
• Advance opportunities through laboratory testing, pilots, demonstration projects and commercial implementation, and build business cases and investment recommendations.
• Build partnerships with research institutions, universities, technology providers, startups and industry organizations, and assess market opportunities and licensing, joint venture and commercialization options.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline.
• More than 7 years of experience in mining, mineral processing, technology development, innovation, business development or strategic partnerships.
• Experience in mine waste, waste rock and tailings valorization, resource recovery or circular economy initiatives.
• Proven track record leading technology development, pilot programs, feasibility studies or commercialization projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing executive, governmental, industry and research stakeholder relationships.
