About the role
The Protection Engineer will design, review and verify protection settings and logic for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) infrastructure, including substations, transformers and inverters. The role involves performing calculations, coordination studies and fault analysis for high, medium and low voltage protection systems.
Key responsibilities
- Design, review and validate protection logic for HV, MV and LV networks.
- Perform coordination studies, fault analysis and protection calculations.
- Oversee testing, pre‑commissioning and commissioning of protection relays (e.g., SECO, Siemens, ABB, Schneider).
- Troubleshoot complex protection issues, investigate trippings and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with GCC standards, SEC regulations and project safety guidelines.
- Coordinate with site operations, sub‑contractors and grid authorities during integration.
Required profile
- Proven experience in protection engineering for BESS, substations, transformers or inverter systems.
- Familiarity with GCC standards and Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) regulations.
- Ability to work closely with site teams, contractors and grid operators.
Required skills
- Protection relay configuration and testing (SECO, Siemens, ABB, Schneider).
- HV, MV and LV protection system design.
- Coordination studies and fault analysis.
- Testing and commissioning of protection equipment.
- Knowledge of GCC standards and SEC regulatory requirements.
