Senior Backend/Application Engineer

About the role

Qahwa is building an operating system for modern coffee shops, unifying POS, inventory, accounting and more. We are looking for a Senior Backend/Application Engineer to own and evolve the core backend services that drive transactions, compliance and reporting across our SaaS platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high‑performance backend services and public APIs.
• Ensure data integrity, consistency and correctness throughout the platform.
• Own database schema design, evolution and migration strategies.
• Build and maintain financial, compliance and reporting subsystems.
• Improve scalability, reliability and performance of all backend components.
• Integrate with external payment, tax and regulatory systems.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and define technical standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in backend development for production, business‑critical systems.
• Strong expertise in database design and SQL.
• Hands‑on experience with complex data models and transactional workflows.
• Background in accounting, fintech, tax or compliance systems is a plus.
• Experience with multi‑tenant SaaS applications and AI‑assisted document processing.
• Fluent communication in Arabic and English.
• Self‑motivated, organized and driven to succeed, preferably with hospitality industry exposure.
