Senior Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineer

About the role

The Senior Transportation Planning & Traffic Safety Engineer leads transportation planning and traffic safety initiatives in line with international engineering standards and best practice. The role covers technical reviews, traffic engineering studies and coordination with internal stakeholders and government authorities to improve road safety and traffic mobility. The workplace is on site in Riyadh.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with company representatives and government authorities to support and implement traffic and transportation safety improvements.
• Serve as technical lead for traffic safety engineering assignments, giving guidance, supervision and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Review and develop scopes of work for studies such as Road Safety Audits (RSA), Traffic Impact Studies (TIS), Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) plans and other transportation engineering studies.
• Provide technical support and engineering recommendations to stakeholders to improve traffic operations, mobility and road safety.
• Review roadway designs, engineering specifications and proposed infrastructure improvements around company facilities for compliance with industry standards.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, meeting minutes, correspondence, presentations and other project documentation.
• Support the Traffic Safety Services Engineering team through technical training programs, knowledge sharing and improved engineering processes.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, mainly in transportation planning, traffic engineering and traffic safety engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a specialization in transportation planning and traffic engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Mandatory professional certification: PE, PTOE, PTP, RoSPA Road Safety Certification, RSP, or an equivalent internationally recognized certification.

Required skills

• Highway design, transportation planning, traffic engineering and traffic safety studies.
• Road safety audits, traffic impact assessments and temporary traffic management.
• Knowledge of AASHTO Green Book, HCM, HSM, MUTCD, ITE Guidelines and FHWA standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical evaluation skills, and excellent written and verbal communication.
