SMS Manager

About the role

The SMS Manager leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Taiba Airports' Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with GACA regulations, ICAO standards and company policies. This senior position provides reliable safety information to senior leadership, drives safety performance, and oversees a dedicated SMS team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Safety Management System.
• Establish and maintain SMS policies, procedures, manuals, standards, and governance frameworks aligned with GACA regulations, ICAO requirements, and company policies.
• Translate safety objectives into departmental plans, priorities, initiatives, and measurable performance targets.
• Oversee the four SMS pillars – Safety Policy & Objectives, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion – ensuring effective integration.
• Manage hazard identification and safety risk management processes, applying appropriate methodologies for risk assessment, mitigation, acceptance, and escalation.
• Maintain and monitor the organizational safety risk register, ensuring risks, mitigations, responsible parties, and target dates are up‑to‑date.
• Review and challenge significant safety risk assessments and ensure controls are in place before risk acceptance.
• Coordinate Management of Change assessments for safety risks arising from operational, procedural, or infrastructure changes.
• Govern safety and occurrence reporting processes, ensuring incidents are investigated, documented, classified, and communicated.
• Lead major safety investigations and root‑cause analyses, overseeing corrective and preventive actions to closure.
• Act as the focal point for regulatory and oversight matters, coordinating GACA audits, inspections, and ensuring compliance with findings.
• Collaborate with Operations, Facility Management, Security, ARFF, Commercial and other departments to integrate safety requirements.
• Supervise, coach, and develop the SMS team, setting objectives and monitoring performance.
• Prepare and present periodic SMS reports, dashboards, risk profiles, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership.
