Sr. Maintenance Technician, Automation

About the role

The Senior Maintenance Technician, Automation ensures the reliability and efficiency of Body in White (BIW) automated manufacturing equipment. You will lead troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement for robotics, PLCs, and related systems in a high‑performance automotive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of robots, conveyors, pneumatic systems, and BIW process equipment.
• Perform hands‑on diagnostics, programming, and fault analysis for PLC‑based control systems and VFDs.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS) and communication between PLCs, robots, weld controllers, and safety devices.
• Execute preventive maintenance plans, manage spare‑parts inventory, and ensure accurate CMMS documentation.
• Commission, start‑up, and integrate new automation equipment, coordinating contractors and vendors safely.

Required profile

• Associate degree in an automotive‑related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in BIW or automotive maintenance, with proven PLC and robotics troubleshooting.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, control panels, and pneumatic diagrams.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, stand, stoop, and work in confined spaces with appropriate PPE.

Required skills

• Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms (Studio 5000, HMIs, VFDs).
• PLC programming, logic modification, backup, and online monitoring.
• FANUC robot interfacing and signal troubleshooting.
• Industrial communication networks – Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS.
• Spot and arc welding controller integration within BIW robotic welding cells.
• CMMS systems and equipment monitoring.
• Pneumatic system maintenance and valve/cylinder rebuilding.
