Control & Protection Design Engineer

About the role

The Control & Protection Design Engineer is responsible for guaranteeing the quality, budget, and schedule of design work for high‑voltage substations. The role focuses on creating reliable, efficient control, protection, and low‑voltage systems while ensuring ease of installation, operation, and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of control, protection, electrical distribution, telecom, and monitoring systems for high‑voltage substations.
• Produce single‑line diagrams, schematic diagrams, protection schemes, and auxiliary service designs.
• Coordinate design reviews, gate reviews, and ROR integration to align with overall substation architecture.
• Support procurement, technical customer assistance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage engineering subcontractors and oversee commissioning and testing of low‑voltage systems.
• Travel up to 20% across MEA, Europe, and other regions as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in T&D, STATCOM, or HV substation projects (EPC environment).
• At least 5 years of experience with SEC standards in KSA; experience with synchro condensers is a plus.
• Strong oral and written English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% internationally.
