Director of Operations – Port & Terminal Management

About the role

Lead and manage all port and terminal operational activities, including vessel, yard and gate operations, to ensure safe, efficient and cost‑effective daily execution. The role drives productivity, resource optimisation and operational excellence in line with the Chief Operating Officer’s strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership to vessel, yard and landside operational functions.
• Ensure safe execution of terminal operations complying with DP World safety standards and policies.
• Implement operational strategies aligned with the terminal’s business plan.
• Manage manpower, equipment and resources to meet operational demand.
• Support preparation and control of operational budgets and cost management.
• Lead performance management, coaching and succession planning for operational teams.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with EHS policies.
• Monitor operational risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and port authority requirements.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Planning, IT and Customer Service departments.
• Oversee day‑to‑day terminal operations, vessel handling, yard planning and gate operations.
• Optimize utilization of cranes, yard equipment, workforce and infrastructure.
• Track and improve KPIs such as crane productivity, truck turnaround time and yard performance.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to enhance efficiency.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and increase productivity.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in terminal or port operations.
• Strong background in safety and EHS compliance.
• Experience managing operational budgets and cost controls.
• Ability to develop and coach operational teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
• Track record of implementing process improvements and automation.
