Director of Retail Development

About the role

The Director of Retail Development leads the Commercial Office Business Unit’s portfolio, overseeing the full development lifecycle of commercial office and retail assets. This senior position provides strategic leadership from planning and feasibility through design, construction, and operational readiness to maximise asset performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop implementation approaches, delivery schedules and execution activities aligned with business objectives and asset positioning.
• Manage development sequencing, integration and delivery planning to maintain timelines and achieve approved outcomes.
• Oversee end‑to‑end delivery from concept through handover, ensuring quality, schedule, cost and operational readiness targets are met.
• Evaluate feasibility studies and financial models to inform investment decisions and value‑optimization initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with governance standards, regulatory obligations and risk‑management processes.
• Coordinate planning, design, commercial, delivery and operational workstreams for integrated execution.
• Engage with tenants, operators, partners and service providers to achieve operational integration and activation readiness.
• Monitor performance, manage risks, resolve issues and consolidate reporting for informed decision‑making.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate Development, Urban Planning, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
• Preferred Master’s degree or MBA in relevant discipline.
• 10‑12 years of experience in retail, mixed‑use, commercial or destination development, including managerial responsibilities.
• Professional certifications or memberships such as RICS, ULI, PMI, CIOB or ICSC are preferred.
