Duty Engineer – Hotel Operations

About the role

The Duty Engineer ensures that all guest areas and back‑of‑house facilities operate smoothly by maintaining engineering plants, equipment and systems in a state of readiness. Working on a shift basis, the role supports the hotel’s safety and preventive‑maintenance programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Familiarise with the design and layout of guest and back‑of‑house areas and understand related operating procedures.
• Maintain machinery and engineering plants according to the preventive‑maintenance schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Engineering (ADOE).
• Keep accurate maintenance records, inventories and logs; report equipment status to ADOE/Director of Engineering (DOE).
• Oversee shift operations, prepare reports, manage inventory and requisitions for equipment maintenance.
• Implement and follow the company Safety Management System, including emergency fire response and other emergency procedures.
• Assist in developing and executing preventive‑maintenance programmes for mechanical equipment and facilities.
• Inspect completed work for compliance with blueprints, specifications and applicable codes, and coordinate any required rework.
• Provide engineering support to internal and external customers as needed.

Required profile

• Understanding of hotel engineering operations and ability to work on rotating shifts.
• Attention to detail for record‑keeping, reporting and compliance with safety standards.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the engineering team and other hotel departments.
• Punctuality and adherence to uniform and badge policies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of preventive‑maintenance procedures for mechanical equipment.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and emergency response protocols.
• Basic understanding of engineering plant operations and equipment inspection.
