Engineering Manager – Backend & Microservices

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the design and development of high‑performance backend systems for HALA, a fast‑growing fintech serving SMEs across the MENAP region. You will own the architecture of microservices, guide a team of engineers and ensure reliable, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, high‑performance backend services.
• Architect and implement microservices‑based applications using .NET Core.
• Develop and optimise RESTful APIs for seamless integration with front‑end and third‑party services.
• Work with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases for efficient data storage and retrieval.
• Implement authentication, authorization and security best practices (OAuth, JWT, encryption, API security).
• Collaborate with DevOps to manage CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Ensure system scalability, reliability and performance optimisation.
• Work with event‑driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ or other message brokers.
• Perform code reviews, mentor junior engineers and enforce best coding practices.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in backend development.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to mentor junior developers.
• Proven ability to design and deliver microservices‑based, high‑availability systems.
• Analytical mindset with excellent problem‑solving and debugging abilities.
