Field Engineer – Pavement (Airfield)

About the role

Parsons is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to lead the construction and quality control of airfield pavement works on a major airport runway development project. The role involves supervising flexible and rigid pavement systems, ensuring compliance with aviation authority standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams on‑site.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise on‑site pavement activities including subgrade preparation, base layers, asphalt paving, and concrete works.
• Verify that runway, taxiway, and apron pavements are built according to approved drawings, method statements, and technical specifications.
• Monitor paving operations for layer thickness, compaction, temperature, and finishing tolerances.
• Coordinate QA/QC testing (density, gradation, asphalt content, concrete strength, smoothness) and manage non‑conformance reports.
• Ensure compliance with ICAO, FAA, and local aviation authority pavement requirements.
• Work with survey teams to confirm horizontal and vertical alignments, crossfalls, and slopes.
• Prepare daily progress reports, technical records, and inspection documentation.
• Support safe operations in restricted airfield environments, adhering to HSE plans and airside safety rules.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in pavement engineering or site supervision, preferably on runway, taxiway, apron, or large‑scale transportation projects.
• Strong knowledge of aviation pavement standards (ICAO, FAA, AASHTO, ASTM).
• Proven ability to interpret pavement drawings, specifications, and method statements.

Required skills

• Asphalt paving construction and testing.
• Concrete pavement construction and testing.
• Pavement testing procedures (density, gradation, asphalt content, concrete strength, smoothness).
• Familiarity with ICAO, FAA, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.
• Interpretation of pavement drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency in MS Office for reporting.
