Freelance Automation Engineer – Packaging Line

About the role

We are seeking a Freelance Automation Engineer for a two‑month, full‑time assignment in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. You will design and implement a complete automation control system for a Horizontal Form Fill Seal (HFFS) packaging line, integrating the HFFS machine, conveyor, and labeling equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Design electrical control panels, including motor starters, VFDs, safety relays, and circuit protection.
• Select and integrate sensors such as proximity, pressure, temperature, speed, and photo‑eye devices.
• Plan PLC I/O layout and signal conditioning.
• Develop core PLC programs to sequence HFFS, conveyor, and labeling operations, ensuring speed synchronization and safety interlocks.
• Implement PLC‑to‑PLC communication (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus, etc.) and error‑detection logic.
• Create operator manuals, technician guides, and maintenance plans covering preventive, predictive, and spare‑part strategies.
• Provide post‑launch support and system commissioning.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of automation engineering experience.
• Hands‑on experience with HFFS or similar intermittent production equipment.
• Proven ability to work independently on electrical design, PLC programming, and system integration.
